Fuel Trip Calculator
Enter a start and end in the UK, your fuel type, and imperial MPG. We estimate litres for the journey (straight-line distance), then show trip cost and stations within 3 miles of your start using live UK prices.

Common questions
- Why is the distance “as the crow flies”?
- We geocode your start and end to coordinates and measure the great-circle distance in miles. That’s quick and doesn’t need a routing API. Real roads are longer — many journeys need roughly 10–20% more distance (and fuel) than the straight line, depending on the route.
- What does MPG mean here?
- MPG is UK imperial miles per imperial gallon — the figure most UK drivers see in reviews and handbooks. We convert to litres using 1 imperial gallon ≈ 4.546 litres, matching how fuel is sold at the pump.
- Does fuel type change the maths?
- The litres estimate only uses distance and MPG — your car’s real consumption varies by fuel grade, driving style, and load. Picking E10, E5, B7, or SDV labels the result for your records; it doesn’t change the formula.
- How do you estimate trip cost?
- We find stations within about 3 miles of your start that list your chosen fuel, then multiply the litres you need by each station’s pence-per-litre price — the same live data as our map. Cheapest for the trip is the lowest total; we also show a rough average across the listed stations.
